The STAR Model, a research-based review
The STAR model is a widely used and applied model, most typically used in HR, recruitment and L&D. It is common for the model to be used in different settings. It is often used as a model for structuring interview responses, particularly when being asked competency based questions. It is also used as a coaching approach, providing structure to having a coaching based conversation.
However, can we attribute an intended outcome to the use of this model? Put another way, are the accepted methods of application backed up by a research informed position? Is there evidence to suggest that the STAR model is more effective than other models, and where has that evidence come from?
